deeper still recap… part Priscilla Shirer

do you know her? well, you should.. Priscilla Shirer continues to take thousands of women to the foot of the Cross through her Bible Studies and books and speaking/teaching engagements.

She definitely brought IT and in the words of Jonathan Acuff:
“Good grief, that Priscilla Shirer was on fire. I only caught a couple minutes of her but she absolutely destroyed that stage. Wow. I thought at the end she’d just drop the mic like Eminem at the end of 8 mile and walk off. Great stuff.”

How could it not destroy the stage when she started off with this: ” What kind of people are you hanging out with?  What kind of people are you on purpose hanging out with?”

She went on to share about her girlfriend that lives across the street.   When the Shirer’s first moved into their home in the country, they didn’t have any hi-speed internet and it was really difficult to get writing and work done.  After Priscilla would get her boys off to school, she’d walk over to her girlfriend’s home and mooch off of her hi-speed internet access.  It was a such a regular occurrence that her girlfriend would turn on the light and welcome her with a little cup of something warm in Priscilla’s favorite spot.  Priscilla was mooching off her hi-speed internet.  WAIT for IT.

Question to change the heart #2: Who do you have close by?  What friendship/accountability do you nurture and are intentional about?  Whose hi-speed faith do you need to mooch off of?

We ventured over to 2 Kings 13:17-20.  Elisha instructs the king to open the window and shoot.  Empty his quiver and shoot and he would completely destroy the Arameans.  Following instructions, the king took his arrows and struck the ground.  three times.  He didn’t empty his quiver completely.  he didn’t trust God completely.  He held back some of those bows and left them in the quiver.  He would have defeated them five or six times, but instead, he had a half way faith…

Questions to change the heart #3:  How much faith do you have?  What are you holding back from God?

Priscilla encouraged us to take everything we’ve got and give it all to God.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses , so that Christ’s power may rest in me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9

WORD.

Priscilla went on to say these things that stuck to my heart like a super glue’d message:

  • While we are sitting and waiting on God, I wonder if He is waiting on us?
  • Let’s all become the Sisterhood of the Empty Quiver… empty all we have for His Glory.
  • We’ve seen little because we believe little, we believe little because we have seen little.
  • When we realize Who we are dealing with, we have a whole NEW perspective.
  • We need to be living our faith, not just talking about it.
  • Aliens and strangers to this world is what we should be.
  • Works in obedience to God’s Word = AMAZING things for His glory.
  • Let us truly be a great cloud of witnesses.

See.. what I’m talking about?  See what Jonathan Acuff meant by destroying the stage?  YUH HUH!  (that’s Texan for you betcha)

I must admit that I was so taken aback by her message that I couldn’t write it all down.. I got stuck on the whole bow/quiver deal.  My quiver is definitely not empty every day.  Some days are empty.. some days I am holding back.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” – Psalm 20:7

Father, change my perspective and give me a WHOLE new one.  I want to realize in every waking moment that YOU are Who I am dealing with and YOU are who has my back.  I want to live in the middle of the Sisterhood of the Empty Quiver.

Share with me what has changed your heart from our time with Priscilla.. I can’t wait to hear.

  1. I definitely need to mooch off your high-speed faith!!! Loved reading the recap, brought back so much from the weekend.
I too don't have an empty quiver each day, but God is trying to help me with that.
Thank you for all you do to inspire me to be a better person, and to become closer to Him.
    love you girl.

  2. I so need to mooch off your internet too! I can honestly say that I've lived through an empty quiver this summer! and I want to empty it every day but I find myself limiting God and need to learn to let him step in for me. The God Margin!

  3. I must confess, I woke up with a migraine the second morning of Deeper Still. In a rare moment of frustration, I nearly turned back and headed to Nashville. Thankfully, God prompted me to stay. He made a way for me, since I was all alone at the event–and am handicapped. The moment Priscilla began to speak I knew I needed to hear every word.

I loved what she had to say about the "God Margin." In my life it is HUGE!

This session continues to challenge me. In huge letters I wrote LORD, GIVE ME A MENTOR. I am one, but I need one.
Anyway, it's hard not to babble because Priscilla definitely did BRING IT and I'm still figuring out what to do with it all :-0
